LAAS Christmas Celebration December 2018

In December 2018, LAAS decided to celebrate Christmas differently.

Christmas is a time for love and sharing. It is fun to receive gifts from others but last Christmas (2018), we decided to be the ones to share our blessings with others.

Half a day on 12th December 2018 was spent with at Anand Bhavan, Laitumkhrah Shillong – Home of Missionaries of Charity (Mother Theresa) with the orphaned, abandoned and neglected children. There were about 35 children, all below the age of 14 years but most of them were below the age of 7 years.

A warm welcome was received from the Sister in charge of Anand Bhavan which continued with a prayer. Children were given gifts such as new school bags, pencil box and towels. As gifts were given out to the children, the atmosphere changed as there was excitement in the eyes and behavior of the kids. Clothes, Soaps and detergents were also given so that it can be used for the children. They were well treated with snacks too and had a cutting of the Christmas Cake. The kids were very happy to receive all this and were overwhelm with the gifts.
This event was accompanied by a group of Christmas carol singers and a musician who were students of Loreto Convent. They were enthusiastic and kind enough to take part and made the event lively and meaningful to the occasion.

This was a good initiative by LAAS as it gave the deprived ones a chance to enjoy the good food and gifts especially being Christmas time. This gave the privilege to these less fortunate children to feel loved and feel special. It was a wonderful day for the kids. All the gifts and snacks came from LAAS, but most of it was sponsored/gifted by the a few generous Ex LAAS executive members , a few of the current LAAS executive members and also ex-pupils of Loreto Convent Shillong.

We thank the Sister incharge of Anand Bhavan who allowed us to visit the children, Principal of Loreto Convent School – Sister Mercia DSouza for her support, the LAAS executive members who organized this event and their contribution, the singers-Loreto girls, everyone else who contributed to this event and it’s success and the ex-LAAS executive members who continued and still continuing to hold our hand and motivated us to move forward.
